Garden of Colours

2015

Permanent outdoor installation; commission for ti&m Zürich.

Apart from the basic colours, namely black, red, green, yellow, blue, brown, purple, pink, orange and grey, in ordinary speech we compare the shade of colour with an instance, situation or object we have encountered. One learns a word and connects it with the colour to which it refers. In many cases, in order to specify a certain tone or shade, a colour’s name refers to an object that bears this colour: liquorice black, ocean blue, cement grey, apple green, strawberry red, snow white or lemon yellow.

This permanent outdoor installation of ceramic plant labels refers to colour names based on plants’ colours. In the installation, the plants are absent, but the RGB and HEX code enables us to produce the exact shade digitally.
